Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI v Botany Bay III on Sat 12 Jul 2008 at 1:30
Match was Drawn
Match report
After losing the toss on a very damp wicket, we were inserted and optimism for posting a quick, high score for Botany Bay to chase was quickly dampened by slow scoring on a damp wicket. A 38 opening stand felt like more and reality sunk in when we subsided to 59-5, with most wickets avoidable, especially a silly run out of Stev Wale.
Simon Brennan stuck around for a grafting 38 up until then and Toddy then applied his experience to nudge, nurdle and selectively bash 6 sixes as he racked up 72, with able backing from Freddie Rodwell. Some useful scrambling of runs by the lower order took us up to 181 after the 47 overs.
Botany Bay started with intent pushing quick singles and looking to get going. Freddie, however, kept them working hard for their runs and threatening to take wickets and with Jez standing up to all bowlers, it was making life tough.
Jez showed his keeping class, taking a stunning stumping off Freddie at his fastest to get rid of the skipper. Some hitting in the middle of the innings threatened to move them towards he score, but Goughie's spin proved too much and shop was shut up with 7 wickets down.
