Bushey III v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 25 Jul 2015 at 1pm - 90 overs (47/43)
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets
Match report
A park pitch which was pretty rough, especially after lots of rain the day before, didn't bode well and it proved to be tough for all batsmen.
Pete won the toss (again) and decided to insert Bushey to find out what the pitch was like and put them under pressure. The fielding display was outstanding. 9 catches held well and bowling to terrify on a horrible pitch.
Ted Stanford got 2 early ones both with bouncers that were gloved behind off consecutive balls and Matt was causing problems too. Every chance given was taken - the highlight was a stupendous diving catch at 2nd slip by Jack Filer - and at the end of their 14 overs as a partnership 6 wickets were already down for 36. Jordan and OC took over and a 7th wicket went on 51.
The 8th wicket fought hard and they batted well, but suddenly we got the breakthrough on Ted's return with Pete taking a sharp close chance and the last 2 wickets went very quickly. 82 all out.
We knew it was tough and Pete and Jamie started knowing we had lots of overs and started carefully and promisingly. Unfortunately, once Jamie was out to a caught and bowled then we lost another 4 wickets quickly and were under pressure.
Pete and Jordan built again and took the score on to halfway to the target but Jordan then got a nasty lifter which caught his bat in back lift to the keeper.
Sam came in and did exactly the right thing with Pete, watching every ball carefully while hitting the bad ball hard. Together, slowly but surely the target was inched to and Sam had the honour of pulling the winning 4 to the boundary.
A great win on a tough pitch. Proud of the performance from everybody.
