Watford Town V v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 5th XI on Sat 13 Aug 2022 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 67 runs
Match report
Our second win of the season came on the hottest saturday of the summer 34c and barely a cloud in the sky. Thankfully Mark won the toss and batted first, the pitch was hard but prone to uneven bounce which made batting tricky. Pete and Joe got us off to a very good start after we had lost Ollie early. Bruno came in at 6 and played some glorious shots including one exquisite cover drive but in the heat became somewhat becalmed and was eventually run out for 46, a decent bit of jug avoidance. A couple of young Spooners didnt trouble the scorers but dad Ali played some excellent shots against a tiring attack and then the tail wagged to get us over 200.
Watford had some decent batters but our young attack stuck at it and we took our catches well when they came. Pick of the bowlers were Ben and Joe who took 5 wickets between them, Tim took a terrific sliding catch on the rock hard ground and then finished them off with a beauty that clipped the top of off stump.
Most village moment of the day was close. Arun umpiring at square leg eating an iced lolly brought on by his dad was the runner up but the clear winner has to be Watford's opener joining our huddle mid innings to discuss how we should get him out!
