Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI v Mill Hill Village III on Sat 02 Jun 2018 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost by 8 runs
Match report
On a stifling hot day, Dave decided to have a bowl to make best use of the pitch conditions and a strong bowling attack. Ethan struck early and Dipesh was unlucky when Niloy took a fine diving catch only for the ball to pop out when his elbow hit the ground. Mill Hill made steady progress but Jake and Jess pegged them back, Jake snaffled 2 wickets thanks to smart stumpings by Niloy and Jess showed a cool head to run out their number 3. Whilst Josh struggled to find his range, Steve stepped in with some important overs. Jess then ended the Mill Hill skippers half century by taking out his middle stump and the innings ended with both sides fairly satisfied at 176/6.
In reply, Steve smashed a couple of boundaries before driving round a straight one which bought Oscar (59) to join Pete (45). Both batted superbly, putting on a 110 for the second wicket but were out to consecutive deliveries with 50 still needed. Ethan joined the skipper and took Berko to within 30 but both played loose shots and Mill Hill were back in the game. The lower order struggled and despite plenty of overs left, wickets fell steadily and 16 were needed off the last over, Niloy took 6 off the first 2 balls before being run out going for a second off the third. Jake then went for glory but it was too big an ask. To lose a game we had looked like winning is hard to take, especially as we gave away 35 in extras inc 25 wides! Nevertheless, the "development" players of Jake, Jess and Oscar all starred with either bat or ball, Pete is back to run making and Niloy had a good debut behind the stumps so plenty of positives.
