Barnet B v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI on Sun 15 Jun 2008 at 1:30
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost by 3 wickets
Match report
Berkhamsted won the toss and went out feeling confident of putting up a good score.
Barnet B's immediately got the ball swinging and we found ourselves at 48-5 in no time. Peter Dudley and Gursh Bhoday then set about rebuilding and worked up a 133 sixth wicket partnership in solid style.
Once Gursh went caught behind the wickets starting tumbling again and the last wicket was made to work to gather another 15 runs to get us past 200. James Chambers gave solid support to Peter in that last stand. The unbalance scorecard showed how it went with Peter and Gursh both scoring 67 and the next highest being 6!!! Extras made an excellent contribution with 52, mostly wides as the swinging ball proved difficult to control.
In reply, the opening bowling was loose and not well controlled and Barnet B's got off to a fast start. It quickly becamce apparent that we needed to bowl them out, as the run rate was not going to be a problem.
James Chambers then bowled really well and Ian Campbell, Huw Barnett and Seb Smith jouned in to put them under presure as the wickets started to fall. Jack Furlong pulled off not 1 but 2 excellent catches in the deep, the 2nd getting rid of their top batsman who was steaming along to 74.
At 7 wickets down, we felt that we were in with a chance, but the 8th wicket pair sensibly played straight and true, with no presuuer on run rate and saw them home with about 4 overs to spare.
