Tring Park v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 11 A on Tue 30 Jun 2015 at 6pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost 6 Wickets
Match report
A scorcher at Tring Park for the showdown between the two group 5 heavyweights. Winning group and 1/4 final qualification at stake. Won the toss, batted, Tring's superstar bowler on top form and we were 0-2 after 1 over! Ben and Harry Oldham followed by Joe Hubbard, Luke Hopcroft and Will Hunt rebuilt the innings in the face of hostile bowling and searing heat and we made 108/5. Joe Hubbard in particular batting 15 overs for a gritty 32.
A defendable total and a steady start with Charlie Doe bowling tight and Jack Pemberton removing one of the openers with a great caught and bowled. Unfortunately this prompted the entry of Tring's superstar player who proceeded to bash 30 off 14 balls throwing his bat at everything on a big ground. This put them well ahead of the required rate and the following batsmen were able to knock off the remaining runs with an over to spare despite a fantastic spell from Oliver Todd who took 2 for 14 and some committed fielding with the boys putting their bodies on the line to save runs. They scored 109/4 leaving us with 14 bonus points meaning they win the group having scored 16 points losing to us earlier in the season.
We were 1 wicket away from guaranteeing a 2nd place qualification and 2 wickets away from winning the group above Tring and now await our fate which involves calculations that may well require a phd in mathematics.
If this is to be our last competitive game of the season it will be a fitting end as the boys gave everything playing a fantastic game against a very good team and in the right spirit. Well done to all.
MOM
Joe Hubbard for a sensational innings in extreme heat and under pressure.
Best Moment
Harry Longbottom for heroic keeping again under immense pressure.
