Match report A fantastic performance that enlightened a pretty cold and gloomy evening. The boys looked great and were in a very positive mood ahead of the first match of the year against external opponents.

Berko won the toss and elected to bat first. Openers Charlie Doe and Will Hunt started solidly, then Charlie went on to show his full range of strokes before retiring on 30. Oliver Todd, Ben Oldham and Joe Hubbard accelerated the scoring with some excellent calling and running with runs coming of virtually every ball. This was despite Dunstable reserving their best bowler until late in the innings. The Berko innings ended with an impressive 115 for 4 wickets putting massive pressure on Dunstable from the start.

Things then started extremely well in the field with the opening quartet of bowlers putting Dunstable under immense pressure. Jack Pemberton and Charlie Doe bowled 4 maidens out of a combined 5 overs while Ben Oldham and Oliver Todd picked up a wicket a piece to pile the pressure on Dunstable. Fielding was extremely lively with the boys communicating well and giving lots of support to each other. Joe Hubbard and Theo Tyszkiewicz kept the pressure on with 4 tight overs including 2 more maidens, one of which was a double wicket maiden for Joe.
With Dunstable way behind the scoring rate the boys comfortably saw out the match despite a late flurry of runs including a magnificent 6 from one of their openers.

Overall a tremendous performance, almost a run a ball scoring when batting, 6 maidens and only 3 wides bowled in 20 overs and lively and enthusiastic in the field with only 1 bye conceded.

I also received a text from one of the opposition parents congratulating the team on their performance but also making a point of the excellent spirit the boys played the game in, this is really pleasing feedback and as important as the performance.
