Harpenden V v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 11 Jul 2015 at 1pm - 90 overs (47/43)
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 97 runs
Match report
Us sitting 8th and Harpenden 2nd and only one going up meant that we felt they were under pressure for the win, so Peter opted to bat first on winning the toss to look to bat out overs and heap it on.
Dave and Josh started well but we had a few wickets go fairly quickly and were 38-3. But the young middle order showed a sensible ability to apply and we rebuilt well. Charlie Mann and Dan Brierley deserve special mention for a 50 partnership sticking to it well on a slow pitch. That gave us room for the (rather older) lower order to have a go and hassle some runs out of the bowling in the closing overs while being careful to bat out the full 47 overs. Target of 187 to win set.
Mark and Sam had a superb start opening the bowling and catches were being snaffled tidily, especially by Josh Todd who ended up taking 3 and costing his father a dubious jug (but bought with great grace later at the club).
They were very quickly 5 down and their hopes fading away.
Time to bring on OC and Jamie, the spin twins (not), and Jamie in particular bamboozled the lower order, bowling the dangerous Hussain behind his legs and inducing chances all over the place on a helpful pitch. A fully deserved 4-19 was the result. Harpenden all out for 89.
A fantastic fielding effort all round with not a single catch dropped. Result was that we moved up to 6th and Harpenden dropped to 5th. Not so much of a gulf after all.....
