Radlett V v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 16 May 2015 at 1pm - limited overs (45)
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 169 runs
Match report
A school pitch in Bushey, facilities poor but the pitch itself perfectly playable, which is the important bit. Good, friendly opposition with lots of youngsters.
Skipper wins the toss and opts to bat with the Dents opening together, a good fast 47 opening partnership and Ian falls a little short of his 50. Debutant Aussie Mike Stone fails to pick up his maiden run for the club (a transfer from a travelling side played against two weeks ago - just don't talk to him about Derek's bowling in that game, expertly spun out going for the big shot for 50, but that's another story) and Brownie and Dan settle in to a good 40 partnership against loopy spin from the youngsters.
After Dan goes, Brownie goes on but is steadily losing the partners who should be there for him. He hits a valuable 50. Suddenly, though, we are 159-9 and need OC together with a resolute Derek to get us through to an excellent 203. Much fiddling about with scorebooks at the end firstly got OC his 50 but then transpired to deny him at 49*.
Opening with Ian D and Lee, it was lambs to the slaughter as the very weak Radlett batting capitulated. The tone was set when one opener decided to trundle off for a single despite Mike's athletic stop in the covers and throw to an excellent keeper in young Dan who even had the time to have 3 goes at the run out before doing so by half the pitch. The other opener was decent but had to retire out to leave the game after half a dozen overs.
The rest was a procession of swipes and misses and those hitting it found a solid slip cordon and outfielders snaffling them up. 34 all out and Ian with a 5-fer. Very tidy.
