Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 25 runs

Match report On a baking hot day this was a very hard fought victory. Ian won the toss and decided to have a bat, the pitch was good and firm and although we lost Ben early in proceedings Lee and Sam built a nice partnership to bring up the 50. Lee got done with one that nipped away, a smart catch by the keeper, then Brett came in and embarked on a one man speed dating mission with most of the opposition team (who took it in good spirits). Brett and Puds together batted fluently and quickly brought up the 100 and at the half way point we were well set at 121-3, a good platform to build a big total, however this is the 2s and no match would be complete without a batting collapse and so it happened again with Joe, Mark and Ian having to do Bolt like sprints into the changing rooms to pad up as wickets inexplicably tumbled against a steady but unspectacular bowling attack.

From 121-3 we had subsided to 137-8 which we knew would not be enough. Fortunately Joe and Mark struck 5 good boundaries and helped by a few byes we somehow scrambled up to 180 which at least was something to bowl at. Only batting 42 overs on a belting pitch with a fast outfield was very disappointing.

After tea we came out in determined mood, our openers Joe and Oli bowled good lines and the opposition just couldn't get going. Ian came on to snare 2 quick wickets as they tried to increase the tempo, then Mark bowled a very accurate spell and deservedly got 3 more wickets. When Nick made a smart run out we looked to be in complete control at 88-7 but the Northwood no 8 was a good batter and he quickly hit 30 to bring the game back into the balance until going for one more big hit he was taken by Nick on the boundary. To their credit the opposition refused to lie down and the last pair batted really well as we began to fade in the heat. 32 runs needed off the last 6 overs. To huge cheers (or was it jeers) from the opposition Brett came onto bowl and conjured up an edge that was smartly taken by Puds at first slip to seal the win. We sprinted off to avoid the millions of flying ants that had invaded the pitch towards the end of the game.

We remain 4th in the league and need 2 convincing wins in the final 2 games to have any chance of achieving a promotion slot.
