Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI v Langleybury IV on Sat 27 Jul 2013 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost by 133 runs
Match report
Langleybury won the toss and opted to bat first and we started promisingly with Hamish and Rob both bowling well in their opening spells against one obviously class batsman - who could easily have played for our 1st XI.
But no wickets went and from there our fielding display started to fall apart. The fielding was untidy and we struggled to find another bowler to support Ian in stemming runs on a hard and flat pitch as runs leaked steadily.
Things turned round from 190-3 after 37 overs as Hamish came back and Ian operated from the bottom end, having swapped from the top. 5 good catches were held by Jacob and Rob and the Langleybury batting subsided to 226 all out. Hamish moved from no wickets to a Pfeiffer in his 2nd spell.
When it came to our turn, it was obvious why Langleybury batted. They kept the old ball throughout and used 3 spinners for the entire innings. A good start by Andre and Jack, leading us to 61-1 after 12, suddenly came to a grinding halt as the skipper brought himself on - a Herts over-50 bowler with stacks of experience and an ex-1st XI player. He took 4-5 off 9 tight overs whilst they kept a promising youngster on at the other end who took 5.
We collapsed to 93 all out and nothing much more to be said really, except to applaud Jack's good 31.
Langleybury showed how to bring a young side on, the opening bat and skipper had stacks of experience and constantly talked their side through the game giving many wise words. It's also the first time that I've ever seen a Div 12 side going through fielding drills before a game. Impressive stuff.
