Bentley Heath II v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 06 Jul 2013 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets
Match report
First hot day of the summer (and hopefully not the last) and on a two toned pitch, Bentley Heath won the toss and inserted us.
The BH bowlers obviosuly knew their wicket well and looked for inconsistent bounce, particularly at one end whilst a steady opener bowled accurately at the other. Both Andre and Peter got out to balls lifting more than expected and then Tim and Ethan built a partnership, with Ethan looked good and classical in his play.
The BH fielders were sharp and took good catches as the wickets started to go, with Ethan building well on his score. Mark came in at 7 and the two of them proceeded to take 20 off a tiring returning opener's over.
Unfortunately, we failed to build on that and where we threatened easily 200, the wickets went again and Ethan was out for a commendable 81. We limped to 165 looking to at least use up the overs, with OC on a previously unknown nought not out after 4-5 overs batting.
The BH openers were strong and easily coped with us using the old ball and starting with Romit and OC. We switched to the new ball and tried Ethan, but they still looked solid and started to become more aggressive. The pitch was now your standard hot day one colour and looking well behaved and we struggled to make any inroads. Ethan was tired after his batting efforts and switching bowlers around made no difference.
We got the one opener out to a tidy Prunty catch and the no. 3 looked just as strong. In the end we took a couple more wickets, including Andre catching a skier at slip with Mark, the keeper, having no idea where the ball was up in the sun. But it was far too little, far too late and was just a consolation couple of points.
