Berkhamsted Cricket Club Sunday XI v Pinner on Sun 24 Jul 2011 at 2pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost by 14 runs
Match report
With over 500 runs and only 9 wickets to fall in 80 overs, we were treated to a fascinating game of cricket on a belter of a pitch in (for a change) brilliant sunshine.
Pinner batting first were well ahead of the clock, peppering the boundaries in increasing fasion, but losing wickets also, it was a great knock from their number 4 posting an innings of 130 until he skied one off James to a good running catch to Gareth, bringing the Pinner total to a massive 265 for 6 after 40 overs.
Little did we expect how close the chase would be, with James and Gareth reaching 50 partnership after 12 overs, then James turned the innings into an exhibition of batting, with able support from Gareth, who eventually brought up his first adult 50 for the club, and James effortlessly passed 100, Unfortunately, even with all 10 wickets in hand, Berko were always behind the clock, and with 5 overs remaining with 46 needed, came the telling over costing all 3 of Berkos wickets and effectively the match. James was finally bowled for a superb 145, 2 balls later Gareth was run out on 72, then followed Huw falling for the cause. Some good hits at the death from Peter and Puds saw us close, but 14 runs shy
