Berkhamsted Cricket Club 4th XI v Mill Hill Village II on Sat 11 Jun 2011 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost by 8 wickets
Match report
As captain of a 4th X1 you should not necessarily expect your team to be at the ground an hour before the start doing a series of high energy warm up drills but when stand in skipper Mark went out to do the toss 5 mins before the start with only 6 players in the dressing room inserting the opposition wasn't foremost on his mind. Consequently having won the toss we had a bat.
We started cautiously with the ball seaming around following overnight rain. Mill Hill's bowlers were quick and accurate and boundaries were at a premium but Pete batted superbly on his way to a half century. Our middle order misfired, James toe ending one back to the bowler, Puds fortunately surviving a close run out before being trapped LBW and Peps and Joe being bowled for a collective single. After 30 overs we had stumbled along to 86-5 and batting points looked a distant hope however in came Will and debutant Khan who together played some sparkling shots in a partnership where runs flowed quickly. With the help of some lusty blows from our other newcomer Shakeel we achieved maximum batting points and a decent target of 184 off 47 overs.
After tea the temperature seemed to drop about 10 degrees and it seemed to affect our bowlers who were consistently too short against a strong batting team. Rajib and Khan removed the impressive openers and Joseph Atkins bowled an accurate spell but the 3 and 4 bats survived a couple of dropped chances and then constructed an excellent century partnership to win the game.
Overall some good positives from the game despite our 5th defeat on the bounce.
