Match report Lovely sunny day at Little Gaddesden we set out with high hopes after last weeks victory. Unfortunately we lost one to Covid in the morning, then another player failed to show up and to put the icing on the cake Jo had to go off in the second over having taken a nasty blow to the face. Hey presto, we were fielding with 8 players against 2 strong batters. Jo came back on and fortunately Simon Atkins our ex 5s captain came wandering by, noticed our plight and dashed home for his whites - thank you Simon! After that we knuckled down to taking wickets, Arun grabbing 2 in his first spell. One of the curses of all our senior teams this year has been bowling too many wides and the 5s didnt want to feel left out managing 23 in the innings. With the pitch having variable bounce Mark also struggled to keep the byes down and in the end we conceded a whopping 45 extras. The bowlers stuck at it and in particular Matt and Kalum bowled economically and kept the run rate down. Matt was desperately unlucky, beating the bat countless times with no joy. Simon picked up 2 sharp chances at short midwicket and Mark pulled off a blinding one handed catch to dismiss their skipper. Honourable mention to Ollie who came back on to take 2 well deserved wickets at the end.

It felt like we had let the oppo get about 40 too many but in the end it was 140 too many as our batting never got going against steady accurate bowling. Only Alex with a good 22 looked comfortable but he was unfortunately run out just as he was getting into his stride. 2 other comical run outs and some truly awful shots sort of summed up our day and hopefully we can bounce back next week with a stronger performance.
