Berkhamsted Cricket Club 2nd XI v Hemel Hempstead Town III on Sat 07 May 2022 at 12pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 60 runs

Match report The 2s got off to a perfect start on what turned out to be a quintessential evening at Berko HQ despite the early morning drizzle. Having won the toss and elected to bat, our innings was a tale of two halves. Careful and watchful accumulation followed by lusty blows and hard-running ensured we reached a highly competitive target of 240 for Hemel 3s to win. Pick of the batting goes to Josh Brain (52) and Jamie Slater (50) for their half-centuries alongside valuable contributions from the Tim Langridge, the skipper and The Bear with 34, 36 and 35 runs respectively. Jamie in particular showing some good adaptability towards the end of the innings with some glorious cover drives. The additional viewership being harvested by our YouTube channel (Berko 2s vs. Hemel 3s) there really was something for everyone. Whether it be learning the nuances of traffic on the northbound A34 from Didcot to Oxford or Dave Crispin’s ‘polite’ commentary on DT’s moon ball (6hrs47mins in for those interested) it promises to be exceptional piece of investment by the club.
With our bowling display it really came down to key wickets being taken at key moments that ensured they never really looked like threatening the target. Wickets in successive overs from Wrighty and The Bear dealt with their openers. But not to be forgotten was an unbelievable piece of athleticism by Dan Lake to snaffle a glove down the legside. Dave Terrace bowled beautifully and claimed 3 scalps including the opposition skipper in his first over with a lovely beguiling ball. Despite problems with cramp (Lee Evans) and a deteriorating right boot (Dan Sudbery) they both stuck to the task manfully and Lee snaffled their pinch-hitter when Tim calmly got underneath a high one. Goes to show that training for those situations can pay off every once in a while. One word of the warning for the 2s though, the scorer known as Extras has for some time been an Achilles’ Heel for us and was again problematic with over 30 runs being contributed in that column. For closer contests the bowlers’ accuracy needs to improve. Pick of the bowling goes to DT 3 for 40 and The Bear 4 for 35.
