Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 15B v Harpenden on Thu 28 May 2009 at 6pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost harpenden won by 10 runs
Match report
A high scoring eventful match saw an experimental u13 team lose by 10 runs in an enjoyable half term friendly played on a warm night.
Harpenden batted first with debutant captain Theo Freedman not quite knowing whether to field at 1st 2nd or 3rd slip. With edges flying around the inevitable happened and the ball went where he wasnt! Consequently Harpenden got off to a storming start and raced to 91 off 12 overs punishing some very wayward Berko bowling. Theo then brought on secret weapon Will Hart - first ball beamer smashed for 6, 2nd ball beamer through the grill of the poor batsman causing cut eye and blood everywhere, third ball full toss onto off stump for a wicket. This somehow stopped the flow of runs and with accurate bowling from Jack Wiggs 1 for 16 and Jacob lewarne 1 for 9 we managed to contain the score to 128-4 off 20 overs.
We made a valiant attempt to get the runs - openers Jonny Harvey and Theo Freedman belting 25 and 27 in quick time before retiring. After 12 overs we were up with the run rate and needed just 46 off the last 8 overs. However, Berkos batsmen kept going for big hits instead of nudging and nurdling singles ala the great G.Thorpe and Harpenden's left arm spinner Carr with a devastating spell of 4 for 12 meant we finished 10 runs short of the total on 118-5.
Back to league action next week.
