Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 10 Blue v Watford Town on Thu 09 Jul 2009 at 6pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won Berkhamsted won by 26 runs
Match report
The boys showed in this game just how much they have come on during the season. A mature display of contolled cricket brought about the desired win and took us to third place in the league. We started the day in fourth behind Watford and a win would jump us above them. Joe, captain for the day before his transfer to Canada and a strange game called baseball, won the toss and elected to field first. Max opened the bowling and throughout their innings we fielded extremely well. A momentary lapse of control with an over zealous 70 mile an hour throw from Ed H which almost took the managers life from 5 yards was the only negative, although some would disagree! 5 wickets were taken 1 each from Joe, Max, Ben and Daniel together with a great runout by Eddie D held their score to 244 runs.
James and Ed H opened the batting knowing that we were very capable of winning this game if we did not lash out at the ball. The advice was accepted and Ed demonstrated what he is capable of if he does not try and smash every ball. He scored a top score of 17 runs and was very well supported by James with 5 runs. Daniel and Joe batted second with Joe this time supporting Daniel. Having seen Ed hit 2 fours Daniel did the same and amassed a score of 14 runs. Joe also scored 5 and at the end of their innings had taken the score beyond Waford to 249 without losing a wicket. Ben and Eddie decided to secure the win with a great defensive display but unfortunately lost 1 wicket. They scored an additional 6 runs with Eddie scoring 2 and Ben 0. George and Max then secured victory by adding 15 runs despite losing 2 wickets scoring 3 and 6 runs respectively.
A great win and as usual played in a manner in which the boys should be very proud. All the parents should realise that this team is very talented and could easily have won the league if weather and availabilty had been kinder to us. I am sure that next year the boys will once again improve and develop their talent.
