Match report The Intrepids set off under leaden skies for a friendly fixture against Leverstock Green V at Bovingdon. We were inserted to bat and with the match reduced to 32 overs after a rain delay the batsmen set about the bowling with gusto. Will and Matt were finding the middle of their clubs and the ball was flying to all parts. We were into the 90’s before Matt tried to be too hung Ho and lost his pegs. Will was taking LBW out of the occasion by wandering down the wicket to every ball and clubbing the ball left right and centre. Once he got to 50 the captain pulled him out knowing full well his ears (and everyone’s else’s) were going to get a good ball for ball recap later on. Most of the batsmen got starts and we’re told to bat freely given the rate we were going along at. Young Alfie Smith played a blinder, batted sensibly, hit the bad balls and defended the good. A very mature performance from a lad who I swear was 2 inches taller at the end of our innings. We set them 230 to win and we’re never going to be under threat. Richard and Tom set us up with parsimonious spells taking 2 good wickets each before we sent on the spins twins. Perhaps I’m pushing abit with twins. A good 20 years age difference between Ali and Jasper but in tandem they were unplayable. Jaspery delighted his captain and all on the field, mixing up his offerings with traditional leggies and then throwing in the googlies. The old stagers of Brown and Atkins cleaned up the tail and we were on our way home pleased with our win.
