Berkhamsted Cricket Club Women's XI v Hitchin on Sun 30 Jun 2019 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won

Match report Hitchin won the toss and decided to put us in to bat first. With 9 players, their tactic was to pack the boundary....
Sue and Emma (Potts) opened - Emma didn't last long before Natalie joined Sue at the crease. They had a good partnership before Natalie succumbed to a good straight ball. Ann came in next but decided she fancied a beer, so in came Kate. Recognising that Lexi was due in to bat next, Emma (Potts) decided to make up for her dodgy batting and offered to undertake some pre-hockey season fitness training as Sue's runner. Had she known that Sue was planning to remain for the rest of the innings, she might have made a different decision and delegated to her daughter.
Some fantastic batting from Sue and Kate ensued - both getting their tons and Kate then retiring to allow Lexi and Jo to have a go. The first innings took a while, but we managed 284 for the loss of only 4 wickets and then went in for tea.
We decided to up the pace in our bowling innings - Jess and Lexi opened; Jess being very economical with her bowling but being unlucky not to get a wicket. Lexi also caused their batsmen problems, similarly being economical but no wickets.
The fielding was a wonderful team effort - lots of banter and chat(!) with fantastic support and backing up. Ann was kept busy at short fine leg (when Sue struggled to touch her toes) and Jo showed discipline and awareness in the field with some excellent backing up. Kit retained her 'magnet' nickname with a solid performance in the covers and both Emma (Potts) and Jess tried to compete for the best dive - but Jess won. Catches for Kit, Emma Preedy and Jess (one-handed?!) and a fabulous run out from Emma Preedy who was simply stunning in the field.
Natalie, struggling a bit with a calf strain, let nothing through in the field and also bowled well - getting a wicket with her final ball (great catch from Emma Preedy).
Dib Dob got some more bowling practice this week and picked up 2 wickets; Emma Preedy also bowling well and getting a wicket too.
Kate Murphy added to her fantastic batting performance with some quality bowling, destroying their lower order by taking three wickets for three runs.
And Sue.... well... let's just say she enjoys calling for runs she doesn't have to make and personally I think her runners should get a share of her runs seeing as they were the ones putting the effort in ;-)
Player of the match - I'm going for two: Kate for an all-round incredible performance with the bat and ball, but also Emma Preedy for simply stunning fielding - an excellent run out and catch, and also mastering the scoreboard!
