Chipperfield Clarendon III v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 4th XI on Sat 16 Jun 2018 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost by 35 runs
Match report
A third successive game where our opposition have racked up 200 runs so we clearly have some work to do in the bowling department! Stand in captain Matt rang the changes and used 8 bowlers but the oppo had 2 strong batters who both scored 50s. Young Tom picked up 2 wickets in a good second spell and his U13 team mate Dan deserved better figures. Our 2 new players David and Alistair both bowled good spells which is encouraging for future matches and Steve got rid of both half-centurions in his 3 overs - underused we heard him mutter in the bar afterwards!
After tea and faced with a big total we struggled to keep up with the required run rate and we lost wickets at regular intervals although after 20 overs we had a decent platform thanks to 36 from Steen. Steve and Matt came in late in the order and played some good shots to add a 50 partnership which gave us a sniff of a chance but once Matt was bowled for 36 (which included 2 fives) the fat lady began to warm up her vocal chords and we were soon on the way back to the warm embrace of the clubhouse bar.
The good news is that we continue to get sides out, earn bonus points and have enjoyable games. Our first victory of the season cant be too far away!
