Berkhamsted Cricket Club 4th XI v Amersham on Sat 26 May 2018 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 51 runs
Match report
A sunny and breezy day at Kitcheners as we played a friendly against Amersham following the league concession by Langleybury. 4 weeks into the league campaign and the Royals have only played one game, worrying times.
In any event we had a very enjoyable game with Peter Drury taking the captaincy reins and deciding to have a bat against a very young Amersham team with only 10 players. We had 4 players on debut including 3 of our U14 squad and a new keeper Niloy Mitra - welcome to all. Our 2 openers Jacob and James batted very steadily and put on 77 for the first wicket. After both openers were out the innings faltered a little until Charlie and Steve came together and put on 50 very quickly which lifted the score to 177. Bizarrely Charlie scored a 6 after running two only for the fielder to throw the ball backwards over the boundary rope. Big Friday night out?
After tea we suffered the misfortune of Billy injuring his ankle after just one ball of his opening over - which put him out of action for the rest of the match. James took a well judged catch on the boundary and with Charlie grabbing 2 wickets and Alec doing a smart run out it looked like the game would be over quickly until Amershams most experienced players put on a 70 partnership. OC got both players out in consecutive overs to end the resistance and then Charlie came back to wrap up the tail and it was handshakes all round and beer o'clock.
Hopefully back in league action next week when we are likely to face a much stiffer task. MOM today has to be Charlie for his 29 runs and 4 wickets - well played!
