Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI v Old Haberdashers II on Sat 16 Jun 2018 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost by 2 wickets
Match report
Another case of close but no cigar. Once again the batting was disappointing and at 35/5 there was a danger that Berkhamsted would be in the bar early but the old heads of Simsy (35*) and Puds (26) worked the angles, put away the bad balls and took the wides and byes on offer. With Mark running for an injured Simsy and Toby striking some blows late on the score reached a respectable 4 an over but was under par on a good track and a fast outfield.
After a brief shower at tea, OHCC came out of the blocks firing but Toby grabbed a couple of wickets and Mark then ripped through the rest of the top order to leave OHCC on 64/5. The OHCC skipper came in and steadied the ship after being dropped on nought and a partnership developed before Dipesh came back with the wind behind him to make the breakthrough and expose the tail. Vinit burgled a couple but the skipper saw OHCC home with plenty of time to spare.
Another up and down performance and too many dropped catches albeit not easy but batting first requires runs on the board to put the oppo under pressure and this just isn't happening. A special mention to George who came down for a beer but ended up replacing Simsy behind the sticks for 33 overs - I wont mention the black trainers and ankle socks!
