Redbourne v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 11 A on Mon 30 Jun 2008 at 6:00
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won Berkhamsted won by 19 runs
Match report
On a beautiful sunny evening league leaders Redbourn won the toss and sent Berkhamsted in to bat. H Jarvie 8 and D Angel opened the batting for Berko and gave Berko a good platform to build from. The best partnership was between D Angel 15 and C Mack 10. They scored a quick 25 in 5 over with good running between the wickets. At this stage T Marino spun his magic and took 6 wickets for 7 runs in his 4 overs. After T Marino had bowled his maximum 4 overs Berko’s tail enders batted sensibly against some excellent fast bowling. Ben Chalmers 9, (unluckily run out on a no ball) saw Berko reach a creditable total of 81 for 9 off 20 overs
All Berko's bowlers were very accurate and difficult to get away and Redbourn were in trouble at 32 for 6 in the 10th over. (Wickets for C Mack (2), B Atkins , R Mcatamney, G Almond and D Angel). In the 10th over B Anthony started to put on an exhibition batting display. The unlucky bowlers at the time bowled straight and a good line and length and at another time may have got wickets however today they were hit all around the park. B Anthony scored 27 runs in 2 overs and had to retire as he sped to a very quick 30. In the 13th over the tail enders came to the crease and Ben Atkins took 2 quick wickets followed by Hamish Jarvie who took the match winning wicket on the first ball of his over. Redbourn were 62 for 9 and Berko had won with nearly 4 overs to spare.
This win was a team effort with everyone contributing. All the bowlers bowled accurately we used 7 bowlers and 6 took wickets and we only conceded 13 extras. Our running between the wickets showed commitment. Our fielding was excellent with very few mistakes. Our own Jonty Rhodes, Rory took another excellent catch. This is the only match Redbourn have lost all season and in the end it was comfortable win for Berko.
