Chorleywood IV v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 4th XI on Sat 02 Sep 2017 at 12.30pm - limited overs (40)
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 25 runs
Match report
A beautiful day welcomed Berkhamsted IVs to Amersham for their final fixture of an exceptionally positive season.
Having deviated through the extraordinarily busy single-track roads that Veteran Peplow guided us through, we arrived at a surprisingly good deck with a good bunch of lads in the opposition.
Skipper lost the toss on his comeback after a week out of cricket. Berkhamsted were inserted on what seemed a decent wicket on a day for runs and wickets.
The batting... A good all-round effort after a hiccup from the openers. Jess Potts and Oscar Dale batted commendably and continued to show their potential for next season. Oscar showed some of his early season aggression with 3 boundaries off 3 balls, and Jess showed shot correctness, which even the opposition were impressed by. John English and Dipesh hit a solid maximum each, which we've only had 3 of in the 4s this year... (time to hit the gym chaps?)
The bowling/ fielding... Having seen the match report from last weekend showing dropped catches galore and having almost let a good victory slip, I witnessed what Peplow mentioned as "one of the best fielding performances he had ever seen by a 4th team". The U18s showed desire, which really boosted morale when the opposition looked set to win. Camryn and Josh bowled with maturity that they have added to the aggression of last year. They implemented the skipper's plans to use the variable bounce of the pitch during their opening spell. Dipesh used his swing very well, however the opposition took advantage of his fatigue later on. Henry bowled well in tandem with Johnny English, but the opposition's opener was quickly building an innings that was taking the game away from Berko. With 10 overs remaining skipper felt the calling and trapped the opening batsman out LBW. One thing this team has developed since last year is a real thirst for victory on the first taste of it. With the opener out, skipper put trusty Potts on at the other end to keep it tight and get the opposition making mistakes against his bowling, which she did incredibly well. A tremendous jumping catch by keeper Matt Dale followed suit with a full ball bowling another from Dharmin's over. Jess got the wicket she deserved with an excellent well-pitched ball picking-off the off stump bail. It was a chance for Dharmin to finish with this team how he wished to, with a victory for the team. An inside edge was taken comfortably by Matt and elation ensued. An incredible finish to the IVs season! Victory by 25 runs with 2.3 overs to spare.
IVs finish 3rd in the table behind runaway leaders West Herts Vs (and their shoddy pitch) and Redbourn IVs. Plenty to build on for next season with some incredible talent in the youth setup!
Season mentions: Jess Potts for her remarkable consistency and never say never attitude with bat and ball, Jake Klosterman for his resilience during a very tough second season in adult cricket, Matt Dale and Pete Drury for their trusty hands and infallible enthusiasm behind the stumps, Andy Chambers and Ian Peplow for providing me with their experience during their times as VC, youngsters (Josh Maddison, Camryn Rochat-Green, Ollie Todd, Tom Fisher, Henry Montague, Ollie Brown, Charlie Pitcher, Alfie Lyons and Will Currie) you have a great deal left to learn having had amazing seasons this year! You could not be at a better place or in a better team to continue to do so! I expect to see you all over the scorecards next year!
BEST OF LUCK TO YOU ALL!
