Abbots Langley v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 11 Aug 2007 at 1:00
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won
Match report
After a sloppy and poor bowling display last week at potters bar a win was a must this weekend to keep us in the promotion hunt.
On a warm afternoon fish strangely lost the toss but it was no worry as we were fielding first anyway. The pitch looked a little suspect especially with a 2 foot ridge to be hit just off a length from 1 end!
Abbots got off to a good start helped with a little bit of luck and found themselves at a healthy 44-0 off the first 12. Soon Janaway started to find his stride and helped with Biddle containing at the other end we had our first 2 wickets. However from here Carlisle (50) and Smith (54) found the boundary often and built there score to 131-2 off 33. With a score flowing nicely fish was brought in to the attack to take the pace off the ball and started to find a nice length. Abbots struggled against Fish (6-21) who was well supported by Janaway (4-60) and were soon dismissed for 178.
It was a nice change from last week with the bowlers bowling better lines and a brilliant team effort in the field backing up the bowlers with some fine fielding
and catching.
The winning total of 179 didn't seem to far away with a lightning outfield and a strong batting line up.
Soon berko were 23-1 and the Abbots bowling was taking control. Fish and Hamo put on only 15 until hamo claimed he got a peach and was bowled. Bringing Bray (24) to the crease he and Fish (50) scored at will and soon the board read 106-2 off 22 and the game looked set for an easy win but as usual the Berko collapse happened and we were struggling at 108-5. Seagrave batted with great skill for 32 and he and foster (13) took as near the winning line until both fell in quick succession leaving Scott 18 not out to hit the winning runs … again!
A good all round game but our batting needs to toughen up a bit and make our 20's and 30's in to 70+
30 points and 2 in the table still tight in the top 3 but it's again in our own hands!
