Tring Park v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 12C on Thu 26 Jun 2008 at 6:00
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won Berkhamsted won by 40 runs
Match report
An inspired batting performance by the Under 12's on a miserable, windy, drizzly night in Tring was enough to secure a vital win against their title rivals. Captain Ed Butler-Caddle won the toss (again) and as usual we batted. After 6 overs we were an astonishing 70 for 0! Opener Josh Roberts literally took apart the Tring attack reaching 30 off just 14 balls. George Parker and Calum Miles batted more steadily, Calum reaching 31 before retiring but then there was a further boundary blitz from Jonathan Harvey (20) and Matthew Hopkins (28). What was most pleasing was the quality of the shots - there were very few slogs but numerous fantastic straight and cover drives, these lads have been well coached!! after our 20 overs we reached 165, our best score of the season.
Not quite the same can be said for our bowling although in the wind and rain it wasnt easy to keep warm, let alone bowl. Ollie Butler batted beautifully for Tring - timing the ball to perfection on his way to 30 retired. At one stage with Berkos fielding getting a bit ragged it looked like Tring may chase the total down but despite some lusty blows from Tom Simpson (24) they couldnt keep up the pressure and skipper Butler-Caddle (with a bleeding toe) stepped into a fray to remove the lower order in one over, clean bowling 3 batsmen. James Sidwell kept wicket really well. Tring finished on 125 and Berko had won by 40 runs.
Now just 2 games to go and we have a 15 point lead at the top of the table.
