Match report A comprehensive win against a modest side on a nice sunny morning in Hemel.
We batted first again and despite the loss of a couple of early wickets steady progress was made by Harry Longbottom (continuing his good form with the bat) and youngster Adam Kapadia, Harry eventually retiring not out and Adam falling 2 runs shy of his 30. Another form batsman in captain Joe Hubbard continued the scoring with a typically measured but forceful innings earning his own retirement. Sensible batting and some good fortune in a number of dropped catches got us to 145/6 and that was without 2 of our most powerful performers, Will S and Ben O facing a ball.
This target was always beyond Hemel who struggled to get a bat on typically tight bowling from the Berko attack. At 10 overs they had only scored 8 runs for 7 wickets with Adam K taking 2 wickets in 2 fine overs (2-0) and then Harry Oldham amazing us with a hat trick off his previously unseen right arm spin! Other wickets went to Will Stanford (1-1), Ben Oldham (1-0) and Joe Hubbard (1-4) with the field taking all their catches.
Fair play to Hemel who dug in with things looking terminal for them and forged a partnership of 30 to get to 38/8. So a comfortable win and credit to captain Joe Hubbard for giving everyone a chance to bowl a couple of overs and keeping the pressure on Hemel with a very tight field.
We have a break for a couple of weeks before the return fixture against Hemel followed by the games that will determine the group.
