Match report A day more suited to polar bears and penguins than cricket. Mark lost the toss and the oppo captain, with only 6 players at the ground, decided to bat. Their 2 openers were ready by 1pm but no sign of any umpires. At about 10 past 1 we got under way. Chris and Jack bowled full and straight, 2 excellent spells with Jack getting an early wicket. Dharmin came on and clearly inspired by the T20 final proceeded to get clubbed for 4 huge sixes in his first over - game on! That was about the end of the excitement for the opposition who then played a whole series of poor shots making the mistake of giving catching practice to Chris who gratefully accepted each and every one. Its not often someone takes a hat-trick of catches in the outfield - but 5 in one game is amazing. George and Chris were way too good for a weak lower order who were blown away in a few overs leaving us to scurry into the clubhouse in search of warmth. A special mention to Jess playing her first adult game, fielded superbly and took 2 wickets with possibly not the best balls she has ever bowled. We also liked Jack's comment "where are the umpires"? !!

After tea, Dave and Steve opened up, making a very steady start before Steve was caught behind. Dave and Dan consolidated until both were out in quick succession and when we lost Chris we were in a spot of bother. George was dropped 2nd ball and then settled down to play some handsome drives, Mark came in on a mission to get the job done in time for the FA Cup semi final and these 2 took the game away from the opposition with a combination of boundaries and sharp singles as the OA fielders froze in the arctic winds sweeping across the ground, Berko running out comfortable winners with 5 overs and 5 wickets to spare. Good team spirit today and a nice start to the season.
