Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 13A v Hemel Hempstead on Tue 17 Jun 2008 at 6:00
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost Hemel won by 89 runs
Match report
The U13s completed their short league season with a bit of a hammering from Hemel who were trying to clinch the league title. Hemel won the toss and batted, starting steadily, the calm before the storm. Berkos bowlers began well, in particular Joseph Atkins who took 1 for 9 off his 4 overs. In addition 3 excellent catches were taken by Jack Wiggs (2) and Jack Hunter to restrict Hemels score to a respectable 51 off the first 10 overs. At that point the wheels didnt just come off they burst into flame and set fire to the clubhouse as suddenly every ball was speeding to the boundary or flying into the cow field. Well actually not quite every ball as 24 balls were either wides or no balls as our generosity to our Hemel neighbours knew no bounds. Leighton and Shaw for Hemel both retired on 30 and the innings finished on 158 - a massive target and leaving some of our lads with x rated bowling figures.
We were never in danger of reaching this total but the boys performed creditably against an excellent bowling attack including 3 county players. We managed 69 all out which would have been better but for 3 unfortunate run outs. Will Holderness played a captains innings and top scored with 19.
