Match report We were expecting a tough game against Watford, the only team to beat Berko U15 so far this season but when they arrived with only 9 players including a couple of 12 year-olds perhaps our boys became over-confident. Watford won the toss and batted and made a decent total in the circumstances of 80 (third top-scorer, again, was Wides + No Balls on 14 and a number of our bowlers need to work hard on this).
Our batting was way below par, the top order who have made the game look easy over the last few weeks all made starts but could not produce the innings of 30 or 40 which would have changed the match. Our middle order fell cheaply and Jack and Louis particularly struggled to get bat on ball, I sensed anxiety taking hold as they went for big shots rather than just nudging singles. Thankfully Tom Clarke got the momentum moving our way again, rotating the strike regularly for an unbeaten 13 but when Hugh Phillipson came to the wicket with six balls remaining we still needed nine to win - a single, a two, a four and a dropped catch left us needing two off the last ball of the match which Hugh launched over the midwicket boundary with consummate ease.
