Berkhamsted Cricket Club Sunday XI v Stage on Sun 26 Apr 2015 at 1.30pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets

Match report A cloudy breezy cold afternoon brought the stars of the Stage to Kitcheners. It wasn't a toss to lose as the wicket was green and sticky. The captain duly lost the toss and was inserted at a rate of knots.
The stage openers were bang on the money right away and first Andre then El Capitain fell to swinging deliveries. Lewarne gamely tried to take the fight to the opposition but once he'd received a blow on the head (lucky it didn't him somewhere vital) he topped edge one back to the bowler. Cue the stars of the show. The youth of today some say! Well let them because at bcc we have some top talent. Young Tomas (sonic) Pierleoni and Willy (won't he) Bickerdike batted like seasoned veterans. Tomas carried his bat and made a century to boot. A more mature batting performance you won't see very often. Willy won't he batted strongly for 45 before making way for a Rob Prunty typical cavalier quick fire 37. We posted 206 off our 40 which looked a good total at the start. The cricket gods then decided to intervene, the wind died, the wicket dried and the sun came out. Various adjectives come to mind but probably onslaught might best sum up the middle overs. Evans and Maik made a good fist of the opening overs removing the top order. Little did we know they had a couple of boys at 4 and 5 who knew a bit about batting on a now dry flat track. Lewarne, fresh from his battering on the head then took a battering to his ego. No problem we thought, we have a young up and coming spinner who can turn a ball sideways. Enter Derek Pratt at the tender age of 346. There was a rumour doing the rounds some decades ago that Pratty was the last man alive to bowl out WG Grace, the fact he was also the first to bowl him out shouldn't be overlooked. Anyway we knew Pratty could sort them. We put him on from the Pavilion end with the sun now firmly in the batsman's eyes. Non afficionados of cricket won't understand the skill involved in bowling a cricket ball over 3000 ft in the air and being able to land it on a batsmen's toes. Pratty once claimed it was actually one of his off spinners that took the Red Baron out over France in 1917 when he tried to strafe a practice session. Anyway the opposition batsman had not heard of the Berkhamsted bomber and set about him with a vengeance. One over was enough, the game was gone and the white flag went out. Congratulations to young Tomas who got to his first century to rapturous applause from a packed pavilion grandstand. More at the BCC next weekend.
