Berkhamsted Cricket Club Sunday XI v Old Haberdashers on Sun 14 Sep 2014 at 1.00 pm
Match was Tied
Match report
In quite a remarkable game last game of the season, the Sunday 1's tied there 2nd game in three matches in a hugely topsy turvy final match of the season v Old Habs, Guy lost the toss, and after 7 overs it looked like we were facing a huge total as Habs had powered onto 59 for no wicket, Fortunately, Matt Costelloe bowled well to put the breaks on, and the introduction of Mark Lewarne whom took an immediate wicket, however at drinks Habs were 110 odd for 2, so a stirring comeback by all our bowlers, and some interesting fielding placings restricted Habs to 190 all out, with 5 wickets for Mark, with Owen, Derek, Mick Stout and Scotty all chipping in, with 2 catches from Andre including one at a shortish mid on!. Quite a comeback after facing down the barrel at one point
In reply, Andre and Matt were watchful, andre cut a couple of 4's till he was caught behind, Matt followed being caught looking for a big hit, then to the crease with Mark was debutant Mick Stout, dropped at slip second ball, he then took to spin attack to pieces with 74, including no less then 6 (huge) sixes, with Mark added good assistance with his 31. Sadly Mick fell caught at Long Off with 35 needed off 10 overs. Wickets fell steadily to good seam bowling, Batting at 10, Guy came in with 4 overs to go needing 11 to win, then Scotty was bowled with 4 required to win, Guy hit a single to mid on the 3rd ball of the last over to level the scores, but unfortunately the author of this report got his sums wrong and the very next ball tried to run a bye to the keeper, with Derek on strike looking on in bemusement in his crease as the ball hit the stumps, Derek not out, but guy was virtually standing next to him, and despite a valliant attempt to get back to the non strikers end, he was run out by a foot to leave the game tied, which in all honesty was probably what the match deserved and an enjoyable game of cricket for all.
