St Albans Sunday 2's v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI on Sun 02 Sep 2012 at 1.30
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets
Match report
The Sunday Intrepids took to the road on Sunday in overcast conditions to play St Albans at Clarance Park on a green wicket and a very big outfield, looking to build on our first win last week Jack promptly lost the toss but was grateful to the oppo electing to back (Jack likes to bat after he has had tea!)
Tight bowling by John Butler-Caddle and Toby Stockton playing his first match of the season restricted St Albans to 2 runs an over, then 2 quick wickets fell to Toby and Phillip Brown, both to sharp catches behind by Jack Furlong, (who incidentally played very well as a stand in Wicket keeper), St Albans then built a solid partnership with a couple of solid batters, but importantly the bowling was tight and fielding (unusually!) tidy, apart from a couple of sharp catches dropped. They were still under 100 with the last 12 overs to bowl, then on came Josh Roberts who took 2 wickets in his very first over, and blew away the tail to finish with club best figures and a 5 fur of 5-19. Special mention has to be made of Guy and his footballing skills at midwicket!
After an excellent tea in the olde worlde pavilion, Messrs Atkins and Drury (jnr) set about the total at a good rate and punishing the bad ball, regularly peppering the large boundary next to the hockey pitches much to Guy's displeasure! The openers were still intact at drinks at 71-0, and then the run rate increased till Simon tried to pull a short ball and was caught. Tony fell cheaply and the total suddenly looked a long way away, but Adam continued to punish the bad ball and eventually reached his first 50 for the club, finally bowled out on 54, Man of the match Josh roberts came in to smash the spinners all over the park to bring us our second successive victory with 2 overs to spell, Well done everyone on a good day's cricket.
