Berkhamsted Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI v Crouch End 2's on Sun 19 Aug 2012 at 1.30
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost by 9 wickets
Match report
In a gloriously sunny day, the sunday 2's played there second match on the adjacent school pitch on what was a suprisingly good wicket, Jack lost the toss and we were put into bat, Nick hit 8 runs in the first 4 balls of the match until he fell on the 6th ball caught at mid off, Adam Drury had a few lives until he missed a straight full toss and he was on his way, sam and Adam B then perished quickly with us in trouble at 41-4. Fortunately Tony was batting well at one end, and Guy came in at 6 to rebuild the innings and both pushed the score on past 100 playing a mixture of defence and attack, guy fell for 23 caught trying to go over the top, Nick T then came in and also played well, unluckily caught to a good low catch at deep mid wicket. Tony was still holding up an end well though, and hit some excellent drives, Rob came in then out, and Hamish came in for the last few overs to help us post 172-7 of our 40, which looked a bit below par on a good wicket, but considering at one point we were 41-4, a good result. Hats off to Tony, who (according to the scorer! but one suspects he had some runs 'lost') was stranded on 49 not out, no doubt he will be aching all over tommorow!
After tea in the main pavilion we were confident of defending our total, but little did we know how strong there openers were, with there aussie overseas playing his last match before flying home (typical). Both openers hitting the ball hard to all parts, not giving a single chance, only when Nick Williams came on to bowl did they look in any trouble, and indeed it was Nick who took the only wicket, removing the Aussie. Crouch end easily got home with over 9 wickets in hand, but if we had removed there openers quickly we probably could have won the game, and indeed 172 was about 70 runs shy of par, good tidy keeping performance from Nick Tivey, and once again well done Tony.
