Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost BCC lost by 25 runs

Match report A cold and damp evening but at least we were playing cricket!
Ricky won the toss and opted to bat which proved to be a wise decision as the thunder clouds that were gathering made batting very difficult later on. However BCC started very brightly and with some fine bowling (Jack 3-0-2-3, Ismaeel 4-0-12-2) and lively fielding they not only took early wickets, but kept the run rate down to just 3 an over until mid-way through the Ricky innings. Unfortunately with a slippery ball and pitch, the wides began to creep in. That said, the boys worked hard in the field and likewise through the opposition with Ricky reaching 78 all out and with only one Ricky batsmen making double figures.
Chasing 78 seemed reasonable but it was soon apparent that the Ricky bowlers knew how to defend such a total as three very quick wickets left BCC on 8 for 4 off just 5 overs. However just when we thought we were down and out, in stepped James Lewis who dispatched the Ricky attack for an aggressive (if somewhat fortunate) 22 having being dropped twice early on! However the support ran out and with the light fading the boys fell back behind the required run rate and in chasing the game lost their last few wickets in quick succession; finally falling short by 25 runs.
A big thank you to the U11s (Marcus and James K, Daniel B and Marcus van V) for stepping into the side and playing so well. Lots to be encouraged about and a few things to work on (cutting out the extras and finding that straight bat) but nevertheless a good start even if the result went against us.
