Match report A very solid performance against a dangerous Rickmansworth side saw the boys win by 6 wickets but at times it was much closer than the result suggests.
Rickmansworth were put into bat and took full advantage of some early inconsistency from the BCC attack with the scoreboard ticking along at almost 5 an over. Although an early wicket looked promising, some slack fielding allowed Rickmansworth to keep up the pressure until 2 wickets in 2 overs by Josh (3-0-8-2) broke into their middle order. BCC were back on top with some fine spin bowling but again we let the opposition off the hook with a few wild overs with far too many extras conceded. Then in the 15th over BCC took charge with an inspired spell of inswing from Christian who ripped through the Rickmansworth defence with ease (4-0-7-4). He was ably supported at the other end by Toby picking up a wicket in a tidy spell himself (3-0-4-1) leaving Tomas to wrap up the tail (3.3-1-8-3) and Rickmansworth on 65 all out.
The BCC innings took a while to get going with Dan and George bowling a very tight line and length and with the Rickmansworth fielders all on their toes, there was little to show for BCC after 4 overs. Tomas finally managed to break the strangle hold with some hard hitting and in turn Christian (11) looked on form until a crazy call saw Tomas run out his partner with 22 on the board. Determined to make amends, Tomas (23 no) continued to attack the bowling and backed up by Tom C (8), Charlie (6) and Toby (6) saw the scorecard rolling along towards the target. A wicket with 2 runs required brought Josh to the crease who dispatched the required runs on his first ball to win the game for BCC.
Although a low scoring game, credit to both sides for making this a good match with some excellent cricket from both sides (in particular some wonderful cover drives from Owen and Toqeer and not forgetting some exceptional fielding by Tommy).
BCC without doubt need to continue to stay focused in the field as too many extras and easy runs were given away. That said it was great to get a win under the belt and we look forward to the next game vs. Bushey.
