Tring park v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 15B on Thu 26 Apr 2012 at 6pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost Tring won by 5 wickets
Match report
Despite the threat of rain all around us, we managed to play out the game without interruption. We won the toss and captain Charlie put us into bat with Alex and Ben doing the opening honours. We started brightly, Ben and Alex looking for the quick singles but coming unstuck
(just!) with an optimistic shout - unlucky Ben! Zac, then Charlie stepped up and showed some good spirit and technique to push the score along. Alex meanwhile got the bit between his teeth and struck an imperious 33 retired, including 6 fours - great stuff! We lost a bit of momentum after that but Robbie, Sam R and new boy Harry kept the total ticking along. Next up, twins Sam and Luke in their first competitive match showed some great touches to pick up the run rate again near the end of the innings, Luke finishing on 17 no with 3 fours - very impressive!
All in all I was very pleased with our batting performance and I felt we were in with a chance if we were able to keep the bowling tidy. We showed great team spirit in the field, the boys were clearly enjoying themselves which was great to see. Unfortunately, it being our first game of the season and without much practice, we gave away a few too many wides and no balls - 32 against Tring's 12. That was really the difference in the teams and i'm sure later in the season we would have had a very close battle on our hands. Most of the boys got to bowl, which was good practice for all of them - the 5 wickets we got were evenly spread, Zac, Alex, Charlie, Robbie and Sam M each getting a wicket. Best figures for Sam M with a very solid 1 for 2 off 3 overs.
Also a great c&b from Charlie, plus catches in the field from Eddie and Alex. Well done to Ben for keeping wicket so vigilantly.
