Old Camdenians III v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 4th XI on Sat 02 Jun 2012 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 2 runs
Match report
Its not often you get to play in a game as exciting as this - and its even better if you come out on the winning side. We travelled to Old Camdenians with our usual goody-bag of enthusiastic youngsters and experienced has-beens looking to climb off the bottom of the table. It was a grey and drizzly day and the outfield, ravaged by the football season, looked horrible so Mark won the toss and decided to have a bat. Adam looked in top form but kept pinging beautifully timed drives and cuts straight at fielders and with wickets falling regularly at the other end we were soon in deep doodoo at 46 for 5.
Rob Prunty came in on a hat trick and displaying his customary sang-froid belted the first 2 balls he faced for 4. Then together with Jack Furlong, they put on a fine partnership and had it not been for an outfield slowed by rain both would have had 50s. One shot by Rob when he pulled a beamer off his nose for 4 and a huge couple of sixes from Jack were the shots of the day. After Rob was stumped we were bowled out for 155, a good total after a poor start.
After a pleasant tea, we emerged to find bright sunshine drying out the wicket and the outfield, not a good sign. Their opener A Norman, played a fine innings, punishing any bad ball and the scoreboard was soon racing along. It was clear the only way we could win was to take all 10 wickets. EBC bowled a classic spell of away swing bowling beating the bat repeatedly with unplayable deliveries and he picked up 2 well deserved wickets. By drinks desperate measures were needed so Mark swapped gloves with James and bowled in tandem with Lewarne junior. Ed pulled off a great catch on the boundary to dismiss the dangerous Yasim, Mark got one through the gate of the opener and suddenly we had a chance. Jacob took that chance, bowling straight and full to clean up the tail, aided by 2 excellent catches from James behind the stumps. A special mention for our general ground fielding and discipline in the field which was the best I have ever seen from a 4th team. We had taken 7 wickets for 30 runs to pull off a remarkable win by just 2 runs.
