Tring Park v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 11 A on Wed 27 Apr 2011 at 545
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won BCC won by 10 wickets
Match report
A great start to the 2011 season by the U11As saw them beat a good Tring side by 10 wickets. After winning the toss and putting Tring into bat, BCC were soon on top as the opening attack of Hadden and Alderson gave little away and forced Tring to look for the boundaries in order to get the scoreboard ticking. The vital breakthrough came in the 3 over with Alderson clean bowling Tring’s opener and with it the top of the middle stump! The energy in the field (so clearly lacking against Chesham earlier in the week) was great to see and made a huge impact in keeping the Tring batsmen under pressure. Unfortunately BCC couldn’t sustain this beyond the 10th over and started to leak extras with too many wides and no balls helping the Tring total. A second wicket courtesy of Todd and the retirement of Tring’s other opener on reaching 30, brought in the big hitters but it was a little too late and so Tring finished their innings on 90.
A quick turnaround and BCC openers Nel and Alderson took to the field keen to make amends for their previous performances vs. Chesham. After a nervous start, both batsmen soon found their stride and the scoreboard began ticking over. Still some hesitancy to take singles, but nevertheless both chipped away at the loose balls and defended everything else well. A couple of dropped catches and a potentially contentious no ball call, allowed both Alderson and Nel to reach 30 and retire with the score on 70 for 0. Ormerod and Mann then proceeded to steer BBC to victory with 2 overs to spare.
Fantastic effort all round and as always the game was played in a great spirit. Tring will be keen to avenge this defeat as they did last year so BCC will have to continue to improve and ensure they cut out the unnecessary extras!
