Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 12C v Tring Park B on Mon 04 Jul 2011 at 6pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 25 runs
Match report
We batted first and set off like a steam train with openers James and Ben finding their feet in the first few balls - 21 off the first two overs! However, the Tring bowling attack started to find their rhythm and pinned us back to 28 after 5 overs, having taken Ben's wicket for 7 in the meantime. Dominic came in and showed some good technique before falling victim to a fine spell of bowling from Tring. James stayed around to score a valuable 24 (including five 4's) before giving way to Callum and Conall who both displayed great composure and control at the crease to put on a partnership of 33, Callum getting 17 and Conall ending up not out for 26. Further knocks of 12 from Charlie and 4 from William gave us our highest innings total of the season by some considerable margin. Excellent performances from all of the boys.
We knew we were in with a very good chance but I was keen for the boys not to be too complacent as the outfield was very quick and it would only take a few in-form batsmen to whittle away our total quite quickly. Fortunately we struck early on the innings with two fine run outs from Conall, one after a difficult catch just went to ground but, keeping alert, throwing in with the batsmen scampering back. Conall struck again with a fine wicket during his over before Seb stepped up in the next over to take two more wickets with his first two deliveries. I don't think the boys could quite believe what was happening! We kept the momentum going with a wicket from Robbie in the next over, followed by great run out from Seb with a direct hit. The boys kept the pressure on the batsmen with wickets apiece for Charlie and James, Robbie holding on well for a difficult catch for the eighth wicket. By the 12th over Tring were holding on at 49 for 9 but staged a wonderful comeback with a 43 run final partnership. The boys lost their focus a little bit and couldn't quite kill off the game. Tring though never looked in a position to threaten and Charlie put them out of their misery in the final over taking the last wicket with a great delivery. This sealed a great team performance from the boys and a fitting way to finish off the league season.
