Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 12C v Hemel Girls on Wed 29 Jun 2011 at 6pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost by 10 wickets
Match report
We put on a very creditable performance last night against the very well drilled and talented Hemel girls team but didn't put quite enough runs on the board to threaten them.
We batted first and found it difficult to make headway against Hemel's bowling attack. I changed the order a little bit to give some of our middle / lower end batsmen a chance at opening; they rose to the challenge very well but struggled to put runs on the board. We lost a steady stream of wickets but steadied the ship with the arrival of Ben and Callum to the crease; Callum ending up with another wonderful 30 no (including 5 4's) and Ben with a very respectable 16 (incl. 3 4's). We ended up with 77 which was a great result considering that we were 19 for 4 early on.
I knew it was going to be a challenge for us to get a result but I tried to encourage the boys to be as tight on their bowling as possible and really look sharp and alert in the field. To be fair to them, they put on a brave performance; we kept the score down well in the first 10
or12 overs, nine of the boys stepping up to the crease with some good quality bowling - best bowling from Seb with a maiden but Jack N also looking good with his first bowling of the year and Sam doing well with only 2 off his over. Still, their opening batters suddenly got their eye in with a succession of fours and they ate up the runs with 7 overs to spare.
All in all, I was very pleased again with the way the boys performed; they showed a good team spirit aned kept going well until the end.
