Hemel v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 15B on Fri 10 Jun 2011 at 6 pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost by 3 wickets
Match report
A gloomy Friday night saw the boys depart to local rivals Hemel. Having won the toss and decided to bat the openers struggled against some good straight bowling and we failed to score off the first two overs. At the start of the third the pressure was too great and Oli Floyd played all round a straight one. Jamie didn’t do much better and was soon gone for 2. Will B and Marcus started to pull things round and we got to 28 before the next wicket fell but sadly in the seventh over so we were now behind the clock. Adam came in and scored well but his running between the wickets was poor and it was a cause for concern that a few more runs at a critical stage could be crucial. To his great credit he knew he had called poorly and I am sure that this element of his game will improve.
Fred came and went without troubling the scorers and JP started well but got out just as he was starting to find the middle. Some frantic running at the end between Peter G and Matt Tse got us to 85 but it was unlikely to be enough.........or was it?
At the break the boys were told they would have to bowl well and field well to win the game as I thought they were about 10 runs too short. As it turned it out, I was wrong as they bowled and fielded very well and turned the game round very well.
JP bowled with venom and got both openers very quickly. The Hemel No.3 and 4 batted really well and without them the game would have been over very quickly but they got the score from 11 for 2 in the 4th over to 65-2 in the 14th. At that stage we were dead and buried. However, some good bowling by Peter, Matt and Will G saw us pin Hemel back to needing 4 off the last over. It went to the last ball and a super shot saw Hemel prevail. A great game and credit to all as the general standard was excellent.
Freddie did well as skipper and the fielding was much improved so there was no disgrace in the loss.
