Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 15B v Potten End on Tue 24 May 2011 at 6 pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 17 runs
Match report
A beautiful evening and Potten End rolled down the hill for the local derby. Skipper Brierley won the toss and BCC batted. Matt Bickerdike and Marcus opened again and poor old Marcus got an absolute beauty first ball and departed the scene. Bickers and Jamie steadied things and all was going well before Matt stepped back a little too far to square cut and destroyed his own stumps. Skipper Brierley entered and smashed the first ball for 4. Leading from the front and showing authority he scored an impressive 22 before running himself out. The calling and running unlike the St Albans game was awful and this is definitely something to work on in training.
Run machine Wilkinson scored well again and for a slight stature, he hits the ball very hard. With James Wilton providing a brief cameo at the end BCC amassed 112 and it was looking OK but not safe. With short boundaries and an outfield like polished glass it just might not be enough.
Pete Glaysher and Jamie Slater opened the bowling and rather as predicted their best players set about the score. Peter bowled straight enough but possibly a bit too short and he paid the price with the short leg side boundary. The first 8 overs went for 41 and Potten End were up with the clock.
It was probably James Wilton that slowed them down and with Pete and Freddie both getting some wickets, the Potten End score then looked a bit light. The retirement of the opening bat Darby was the main issue and he had been allowed to stay in then it might have been a bit different.
The run rate continued to rise and at the end it was 95 off the allotted 20 overs with 6 wickets down.
Credit to newcomer Matt Tse who bowled well and fielded better. Harry bowled well again and Jack Hunter also did well.
P4, W3 L1.
