St Albans v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 15B on Thu 19 May 2011 at 6 pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 39 runs
Match report
A bit like the wider club, getting a team out for this fixture presented a few problems. We managed and thanks and credit to one of the young and upcoming stars, Daniel Brierley who did very well on debut for a team some 4 years older.
Due to the St Albans rush hour we decided to bat. Nothing to do with the pitch but we only had 6 players at the start time. James Wilton opened with Marcus Alter and whilst we got the board moving, there was a very poor run out and soon we were not many for 2 as Marcus was caught at mid wicket.
Jamie Slater batted very well and despite another low score from Chris Lovett, Slater and Freddie Wilkinson scampered runs virtually every ball. The score board ticked over very nicely and when Freddie was run out, the Parrylyzor appeared and with Slater the score board then went into turbo mode. Both had to retire at 32 with James P hitting some very sweetly timed drives. At this rate he will be a regular A team player as timing and temperament are probably a bit too good for this level.
The only highlight of the rest of the innings was young Daniels drive through mid off for one run.
117 all out was a good score but with short boundaries and a flat pitch, this was not to be taken lightly.
What does the coach know???? Nothing!
Wilkinson opened and bowled very tight and conceded just 5 runs taking two wickets in the process. James P bowled quick but very wide and needs some good net time to straighten things out. Slater bowled well and with Wilton, Hunter and young Daniel all taking wickets, St Albans were 9 down at the end with 78 on the board.
It was very easy at the end but some good catches and good throwing meant that the ground fielding continues to improve.
Special mention to Harry Hunter who is now bowling very well. Straight and steady will do him well.
P3, W2 L1.
