Berkhamsted Cricket Club 5th XI v Kings Langley IV on Sat 27 Aug 2011 at 1.00pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 32 runs
Match report
The Intrepids hosted Kings Langley iv at Kitcheners on a blustery day. Intrepids Captain duly won the toss and elected to bat on a pudding of a wicket. El Capitano and his young buccaneer sidekick Furlong opened against a firey attack that had the ball spitting and kicking. Patience was the order of the day waiting for the loose delivery. Furlong and Atkins played along at 4 an over seeing off the openers and getting to 80 for 0 before El Capitano in two minds gave his wicket away to the most innocuous of bowlers. He was not the last to be undone by this however, as a batting collapse follwed but not before the buccaneer had completed a fine 50. In came the experience of the Pepmeister, (whose been round the block more than a few times) to steady the ship. He too was undone in the end after being tempted out of his crease with a wide long hop and duly having his bails removed by the keeper. 171 wasn't a bad total on a pitch which was doing alot for the spinners but we had given the oppo 5 extra overs so we were a little nervous. Prunt the grunt started from one end bowling superb line and length while super spinner Sibbo probed and tempted at the other. The rate was only 2 an over but with the 50 overs to get them it wasn't such a issue. Speed wasn't the answer and so after some good overs from Prunts and Sammy Hauck we settled in with the spin twins Chambers and Sibley. These 2 were turning the ball at right angles and they duly got their rewards. 5 fers both and a match won. The oppo were delightful and great fun was had by all. There were good contributions all over the team. Atkins junior bowled 5 good overs and had 2 wickets go down to dropped catches but he will have benefitted from the experience. Final mention to Buccaneer (Polo gloves) Furlong who in the end got it right and held on to a couple of important ones behind the stumps that probably proved the difference.
