Match report The first ever 5th X1 league fixture was sadly played under the shadow of an enforced conceded game but nonetheless it proved to be a very enjoyable 40/40 match played in beautiful sunshine on a belting batting track at Haslam Fields.

We batted first Adam and Simon making a solid start against good bowling. After Adam departed Mark & Simon put on 70 in brisk fashion, the skipper retiring on 52 including a couple of big tonks for 6. Mark quickly followed for 40, then we had a bit of a mid order collapse, last weeks centurion being outrageously triggered for a blob. Guy kept nudging and nurdling and then Ross and Andy provided much needed impetus with some aggressive pulls and drives so that we set a challenging target.

After an excellent tea with top class silver service from Elaine and the skipper Harpenden wasted no time on the run chase despite losing an early wicket to Hamish who got so excited he injured himself. What followed was a typical 5th team effort, some good balls, some shockers, 6 dropped catches and an assortment of fielding howlers on a bone hard outfield. Despite that we kept chipping away with the odd wicket and just when it looked that the opposition were going to get home Jacob and Ben came on to bowl 7 terrific overs for just 20 runs and 4 wickets, the game finishing in a draw.

Lets hope next time we play we can earn some points!!
