Redbourn III v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 4th XI on Sat 27 Aug 2011 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets

Match report With last weeks match being rained off this became a must win game for the 4s so we travelled to Redbourn intent on doing just that. PW won the toss and stuck the oppo in on what looked like a damp slow wicket. We got off to a great start - Joseph bowling the opener and then a daft run out. No 4 threatened with a few big blows and then a controversial moment when Jacob took a smart catch to remove him but it was ruled bump ball. Thankfully not a turning point as next ball he edged one to PD - well done Jacob. After that Redbourn never threatened to post a big score and we took wickets steadily including another run out - a direct hit from OC making up for his unusually wicketless spell. Also, what a great performance from our jetsetting keeper - flying in from Monaco on the red-eye to play on a windswept recreation ground and only letting through one bye on a very difficult wicket. Redbourn declared a little oddly after 46 overs and we went into tea in bright sunshine.

Our innings started slowly, and we lost James early to a good ball. Huge dark clouds threatened to our right. "Dont worry" said OC "its all going to miss us". Cue torrential downpour which within 15 minutes reduced the pitch to a boggy lake. In normal circumstances it would have been home to watch X Factor but both teams needed to win so after looking mournfully at the pitch for 5 minutes Mark found a gardeners fork and went to work. This combined with a truckload of sawdust enabled play to resume albeit it was almost impossible to stand up. Our overs were reduced to 34 and with the bowlers struggling the Wale brothers took full advantage, playing some superb shots all round the ground. In the end we cantered to victory with 3 overs to spare although Nick & Steve may never have white pads again.

We are now 3 points above the dreaded drop with one game to go and with half the team unavailable next week its going to be a tough one.
