Reed IV v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 4th XI on Sat 07 Aug 2010 at 13:00
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won BCC won by 4 wickets
Match report
Amidst all the rain across Hertfordshire the 4ths managed to find their own micro-climate in Buntingford and barely saw a drop of drizzle all day. This was an important game and our skipper Peter won the toss and invited Reed to bat first. Reed started with a flourish of boundaries but soon Will and Rajib stifled the runs with accurate bowling. It took a while but gradually the wickets began to fall, despite Pete Drury nearly having a toys out of the pram moment following a huge edge from their opener which the umpire didnt see - obviously from the Arsene Wenger school of umpiring. Will grabbed two wickets in a long spell, OC wasnt at his most accurate best but picked up 3 wickets, our catching was good, Steve and Ed BC taking 3 smart catches and our fielding was tidy and keen, capped by the skipper running out their danger man who was beginning to look threatening. Sam and Ed both bowled good spells, and Rajib returned to remove the tail quickly which set up the run chase.
Our response was hesitant, Pete D and Rajib couldnt get going and both fell quickly. Steve and Peps were both struggling with their timing and after 24 overs we only had 64 on the board and the draw was odds-on favourite. However, after Peps, Ed and OC had all gone in quick succession, Mark joined Steve and suddenly the tempo increased with quick singles and twos. Steve started to launch an assault, first on the leggie and then on the offie - hitting 5 sixes and numerous boundaries and then we were back on course. Mark pulled a hamstring and departed but Sam came in and finished it off with Steve who cruised to a magnificent unbeaten century.
A fine win against strong opposition which keep us in second spot with just 4 games to go, exciting times......
