Match report Berko slump to defeat despite Fearn fireworks

On a stiflingly hot afternoon Berkhamsted took to the field first, opening with Darren and Ian Dent. With a constant battle against the humidity for the fielders, Denty bowled with character and removed the opening pair without too much fuss. Some clean hitting from the no.4 Kastelilk moved the opposition along briskly although it was felt that he could have gone on numerous occasions, riding his luck effectively in the end with a half century. With a quick outfield and good batting conditions, Botany Bay edged, spliced and occasionally timed their way past two hundred despite some steady overs from Dight and Dazza. A few missed chances in the outfield could and should have had Berkhamsted chasing a sub 200 score but this wasn't to be with no's 8 & 9 putting on 50.

WIth an uphill battle ahead, the visitor's campaign did not start to plan with Toughers being given out LBW despite managing to get bat on ball. Insult to injury as a humid, tropical esq downpour moved across the field and furthermore with Sherjan managing to run himself out for 1 before the players conceded to the elements and came off for an '8 over's lost' rain delay. On resuming, MIke Smith offered some further strokes but fell for 19 and Scotty fell some 10 overs later. At this point, John Fearn was building momentum with some sweetly timed execution, pushing the score to 120 for 4 and getting Berkhamsted somewhat back on track. Ian Dent offered resistance and looked good until timing one straight to backward square leg. Fearn continued to blast the ball and moved confidently past 50 with Darren James supporting well for a time. At that stage Berko looked good with the field spread and Fearny & Dazzler helping themselves and the fielding side offering nothing but negative expressions. With Fearn's departure on 84, however, Berkhamsted hopes fell fast with the visitors losing wickets in quick succession and finally laying down tamely on 177. With some more determined attitudes at the crease, Berkhamsted may have got somewhere near the 230 required to win but as it happened fell well short of the mark.

Editors moment/s of the match: Fearn's fireworks of 84, excellent to watch.
